DECEMBER 6th – 15th, 2013

This intensive 10 days workshop in Istanbul will help you begin to understand your own distinct way of seeing the world. I want to inspire you to develop your own personal visual language and storytelling through subjectivity, exploring key aspects to build your peculiar emotional narrative with images. This workshop will also help you to the process of discovering and making a long-term project that you’re passionate about and learn efficient strategies for your career in order to take your next professional step.

The series of workshops The World Around Us led by Sebastian Liste is an intensive experience and a full photographic immersion that combines both class instruction and outdoor workshop where students put into practice what they have learned in the classroom.

It is Sebastian’s hope that you come away from this workshop changed in how you view your own photography and with a clearer understanding of who you are as an author

Through daily assignments, photographing, editing, critiquing, sequencing, you will explore the author you have inside. Finding your own voice and your own way to see and to interpret the world around us.

The workshop begins with a constructive critique of your work. On the first day participants will have the opportunity to present their existing work and portfolio. This portfolio review will give Sebastian the opportunity to see where a student stands in his development and what skills should be focused on during the workshop.

During the next days we will spend time together to discuss and review pictures and part of the day will be spent photographing in the streets of the city or focused in a subject with the goal of building a narrative at the end of the workshop.

On the last day of the workshop there’ll be a final group critique of all students. Each student will show the edited work they’ve made over the course of the class. A selection will be made from each student and these images will be displayed that evening in a local gallery.

Istanbul, with one foot in Europe and the other in Asia, stands at the intersection of a multitude of cultures, religions and languages. At once modern and traditional, it is a city that has fascinated and intrigued visitors for centuries.

This workshop focuses not only on teaching visual story telling but also in giving students a chance to fully experience photography. So, my main goal is you will come back home inspired and motivated to keep developing yourself as a photographer. For this reason Istanbul is the right place to immerse on this deep photographic experience. The possibilities of this city are unlimited and the surroundings hold a great deal of stories and interesting people. This will be 10 long days of hard work and professional and creative growth but at the same time we will have fun discovering the wonderful city of Istanbul. A city wich is in constant movement, day and night, crossed and recrossed by activity on land and water, in the labyrinth of small streets at the older quartiers, as well as in the major arteries of the town centre and the Golden Horn.

A full scholarship will be awarded to an emerging Turkish photographer. The scholarship is designed to support continuation of a photographer’s personal project in Istanbul. The primary intent is to support emerging local photographers who will become the tomorrow´s documentary photographers.
